Jimmy plays two antique sets of Uillean pipes, one by Robert Reid of Northumberland, England, and the other by Colgan, both dating from the early 1800s. The Colgan set, which was given to Jimmy by his mentor, Seán Reid, is pitched very low and has an astonishingly warm and rumbling drone. Jimmy's repertory is the old Irish pipes repertory of the 18th and 19th century, played in a very interesting old style.
