Charlotte Milligan Fox (edited by Sara C. Lanier)
Annals of the Irish Harpers
Ardrigh Books, 2014
New paperback re-issue of Annals. This book presents the complete original text, along with a new introduction and appendices by Sara C. Lanier and Roland Spottiswoode. The introduction is a great overview of Charlotte Milligan Fox’s life and work, explaining how she discovered Bunting’s papers and how she came to write and publish the Annals. Appendix 1 is a bibliography of Fox’s published work, while appendix 2 is a very interesting commentary on the Memoirs of Arthur O’Neill, arguing that Fox’s text is more reliable than the later edition by Donal O’Sullivan. The illustrations include all of the ones printed in the 1911 edition of Annals as well as some extra ones including two previously unpublished sketches of 19th century Irish harper, Patrick Murney.
